Read Labels Carefully If You Suffer Gluten Allergy

For those who suffer with gluten allergy, or a wheat allergy, it can be hard to find foods that do not contain this product. Bread and bread products are generally off limits for these people. In addition, sufferers should read ingredient labels carefully to decide which foods are safe to eat and which might cause an allergic reaction.

First, it is important to know that there are two conditions that can cause a person to be sensitive to the ingredients often found in breads and bread products. First, some people suffer with a wheat allergy. They must stay away from products containing wheat or wheat flour, but are allowed to eat any other forms of bread.

Other people suffer with what is called coeliac disease or gluten allergy. For those who have this sensitivity to gluten, it is a little more difficult for them to decide which products are safe to eat and which aren’t. These people need to learn to read product labels carefully and know which ingredients are gluten in disguise.

It is extremely important for people with gluten allergies to recognize all of the ingredients that can indicate there is gluten in a product. Some of the ingredients that indicate gluten is in a product include bread crumbs, couscous, seitan, wheat bran, wheat germ, cereal extract or semolina wheat. Generally people who are sensitive to gluten know to be on the look out for these and all other bread-type products.

However, there are also some products that contain gluten that aren’t as obvious. These include any foods that contain natural flavoring. This is a vague term that may indicate gluten has been used. Soy sauce also contains gluten as does modified food starch, vegetable gum and hydrolyzed vegetable protein.

If you are afraid you might accidentally consume a product that has one of these ingredients, keep a list of these gluten containing products in your pocket or purse. Compare it with the list of ingredients on the food package before buying or eating it to be sure you won’t be eating something that could be potentially harmful.

Those who suffer with a gluten allergy should take steps to see they have help on hand in case they do eat something that causes an allergic reaction. Ask your doctor if he will prescribe an anaphylaxis kit that you can carry with you every where you go.

This kit is basically a shot of epinephrine that will keep your heart beating and help slow airway constriction until you can get to a medical facility for help. Be sure you know how to use this kit in the case you have a reaction. Also be sure those close to you know where to find the kit and how to use it in the case you can’t inject yourself.

Breads and bread products can cause serious allergic reactions for those who suffer a gluten allergy. Generally, people will not outgrow this allergy, they must live with the diet restrictions all of their lives.

Gluten Allergy: The Causes Of Gluten Allergy Revealed

If you are one of the individuals who suffer from gluten allergy you will need to avoid certain foods, particularly wheat, rye, barley and oats. These foods contain gluten in which is the allergen responsible for a gluten allergy sufferer. The problem with this substance is that it is a key component in baked foods such as bread, in fact it is responsible for giving dough its binding properties. In this article we take a closer look at gluten allergy.

Gluten is a protein, it doesn’t cause any problems for the average person when consumed, but if you have a gluten allergy it’s a different story. When suffering from an allergic reaction to gluten in some individuals may experience minor symptoms whilst others may suffer more severe symptom that have the potential to be fatal. Some of the most common symptoms of gluten allergy include swelling, cramps, asthma, vomiting, hives, nausea and swelling amongst other symptoms.

Pinpointing the cause of an allergic reaction is a pretty straightforward process. Let’s say someone has an allergic reaction after consuming gluten, and he or she goes to the doctor. The doctor will either conduct a blood test or a skin prick test. The results of these tests will reveal whether or not the allergic reaction was a result of gluten allergy.

As mentioned earlier some people have minor allergies to gluten, whilst others could potentially die as a result of a gluten allergy. The method of treatment depends on how the gluten allergy affects the individual. For example, if a person suffers from minor symptoms during an allergic reaction, they may be advised to only eat small amounts of wheat as this may stop allergic reactions in future. This individual may also be given medication such as an allergy shot. However if an individual suffers from major symptoms during an allergic reaction, they are usually advised not to consume products that contain gluten full stop.

If a child suffers from a gluten allergy he or she is treated differently than an adult with the same allergy, reasons being young children have a tendency to grow out of allergies, but adults don’t.

A condition that is commonly confused with being a gluten allergy is Coeliac Disease, this is not an allergy, it is infact a disorder that can be inherited, and it is characterized by the damaging effect it has on the immune system. If an individual with Coeliac Disease consumes gluten, the lining of the small intestine gets damaged. As a result the small intestine loses its ability to absorb nutrients and vitamins effectively and this causes a whole host of other problems for the unfortunate individual.

The way that the body reacts to this hereditary disorder differs for children and adults, for children the symptoms can be anything from poor appetite to stunted growth. In adults the symptoms include weight loss, diarrhea and constipation amongst others.

Anyone suffering from gluten allergy is strongly advised to seek medical advice, doing so will allow a health professional to give you a proper diagnosis of your condition, as a result you’ll find out whether or not it is necessary for you to eliminate gluten from your diet.

Facing The Facts Of Gluten Allergy

Food allergy remains one of the most persistent forms of allergic reaction. No one knows why people have certain allergic responses to different types of food. But it is a fact that once a person is exposed to the food allergen, the symptoms will surely follow.

Gluten allergy is a food allergy that makes the sufferer sensitive to gluten. Coeliac disease is a health condition in the small intestine. What happens to a person with gluten allergy is once the allergen comes in contact with the small intestine, it causes the immune system to attack the lining of the bowel.

This attack on the small intestine’s lining of the gluten allergy sufferer weakens the stomach and can cause serious health problems in the future. The delicate lining is responsible for the absorption of nutrients and vitamins in our body. Once it is weakened, we lose our capacity to effectively turn food into energy,

Gluten allergy starts at a young age, right after the weaning period and the mother is feeding the baby with cereals. There are no specific reasons why a person develops the gluten allergy but when it happens, the only thing the gluten allergy sufferer can do is avoid gluten at all cost.

Symptoms of Gluten Allergy

Gluten is usually found in wheat products. Breads, pasta and other baked goods can be considered dangerous to a person with gluten allergy. Biscuits, pastries, breakfast cereals and instant soups and sauces also have gluten. The symptoms of a gluten allergy differ from children and adults.

Children with gluten allergy may suffer from slow physical growth, weight loss, with poor appetite. Gluten allergic symptoms also include vomiting and diarrhea. Because the small intestine’s lining is damaged, the vitamins and minerals do not go to the body. The kids end up looking thin, pale and have no energy at all.

In adults, gluten allergy symptoms are similar, with loss of weight, diarrhea or constipation complicating the disease. Aside from this, adults often complain about depression, extreme fatigue, lethargy, bone pain and ulcers in the sufferer’s mouth.

Treatment

Treatment for gluten allergies begins like all other food allergy, avoiding contact with the allergen. There are certain food substitutes for gluten allergy sufferers like using sunflower oil instead of the usual cooking oil and drinking wines instead of beer.

There are medications available to these sufferers. But unlike other food allergies that show external symptoms like rashes, gluten allergy destroys from the inside, making diagnosis and detection hard. Oral medication can help ease the pain from the small intestine and vitamin supplements must also be taken along with it.

Gluten allergy prevention

Gluten allergy sufferers are asked to be vigilant in monitoring their diet. Reading the labels for anything with wheat is a good start. Self-discipline is the key to beating gluten allergy. The food selection for coeliac disease sufferers is still varied like fruits, salads and vegetables, rice, corn, nuts, meat and chicken eggs and dairy products, fish and seafood.

What could be the worst-case scenario for gluten allergy sufferers? If left untreated, coeliac disease can result in anemia, bone disease and some form of cancer. The best advise is to steer clear of gluten-laden foods. The more the person does not intake gluten, the better their chances of not having a serious health problem in the future.

arnelsoriginals.com Call me at 805-322-6900 I got used to cooking gluten free meals but the one item I missed was good gluten free bread. The products out there were a sad excuse for bread, usually hard, dense, dry, and crumbly. Some companies got the taste right, but no one had a wholesome loaf with a good texture. And so I baked. Each week I my family gave me helpful suggestions and the next week, I started afresh. FINALLY, after eight years of baking bread, I am happy with the results. I make it with organic whole grains, (buckwheat, tapioca, brown rice,) sweeten it with a small amount of cane sugar, and use only expeller pressed oil. What makes the bread different than anything out there is the texture. It’s is soft, flexible, tasty, and wholesome. It’s been a long haul but the excitement I get from those who try the bread, has made it all worth it. www.MeTheDoctor.com — What Causes Pet Allergies and some Tips for Decreasing the Allergic Reactions Associated with your Pets It is estimated that about fifteen percent of the population have allergies to domestic animals. In this medical guide on allergies you will learn what causes pet allergies and what you can do to decrease the allergic reactions while still keeping your pets. The allergic reactions experienced from individuals who are sensitive to these allergens are typically a rash or hives, itchy watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, and sometimes wheezing or coughing. These allergic reactions are primarily caused by pet dander which is produced from the animals’ skin and not from the fur of the animal which is commonly thought to be the cause among many people. Animal saliva can also cause an allergic reaction either by direct contact or when the animal cleans itself by licking their fur and is transferred to your skin when playing with or petting them. There are several things which you can do to greatly reduce the flare ups from these allergy symptoms, one of which is to limit the access which your animals have in your home and not allow them in certain places such as the bedroom or on furniture such as living room furniture that you frequently use. Purchase an air purifier or HEPA filter which is large enough to cover the areas in your home where your pet is allowed and vacuum frequently using a vacuum which also contains a HEPA filter. Allergies Information

Allergies are abnormal immune responses to allergens like pollen grains, dust, moulds and foodstuffs. The allergens can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, injection, or external skin contact. Allergens cause abnormal production of immunoglobulin E (IgE), an antibody already present in the body in small amounts. When the antigen makes contact with some part of the body, it is taken up, processed by Antigen Presenting Cell (APC) and presented on a Class II MHC to Helper cells. In the early stages of allergy, a type I hypersensitivity reaction against an allergen, encountered for the first time, causes a response in the T helper cells. These T helper cells produce cytokines which stimulate B-cells to produce large amount of IgE by proliferating IgE producing plasma cells. Secreted IgE circulates in the blood and binds to an IgE-specific receptor on the surface of mast cells and basophils, which are both involved in the acute inflammatory response. The IgE-coated cells, at this stage are sensitized to the allergen. During second exposure, antigen binds to the IgE antibodies on the mast cells. Activated mast cells and basophils undergo degranulation to release histamine and other inflammatory chemical mediators (cytokines, interleukins, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins) from their granules into the surrounding tissue causing several systemic effects, such as Nasal Stuffyness, Sneezing, Runny nose, Watery eyes and mucous discharge.
